A Sunday school teacher has been arrested by police in Luweero on suspicion of breaking into a colleague's home and stealing church offertory worth Shs 400,000 therein.

Umar Kizito, 18, runs the Sunday school of the Restoration Assembly Church in Luweero town, but is now accused of stealing from his church. Topher Gimei, the officer in charge of criminal investigations in Luweero, said the suspect was picked up on June 27 from his one-room rental in Binyonyi zone in Luweero town.

Kizito has been pinned by Lydia Nakato, a colleague at the church.

"[The suspect] smashed a hole in the wall after he failed to break the padlocks," Nakato said. ''I was shocked at the sight of a hole in my house,
after returning home.

"I checked and the suspect had opened the bag where the money had been kept. He did not take any other property. I went and asked my neighbours who told me they had sighted the suspect [near my home].''

Gimei said they were still investigating the matter.
