Father gets 5 years in prison in horrific child abuse case

On Tuesday in Denver District Court the father of the four boys, 67-year-old Wayne Sperling, was sentenced to five years in prison for keeping his sons in a tiny Denver apartment covered in layers of cat and human feces. Decomposing animals were found near the squalid mattress the four boys shared.

None of the boys — ages 2, 4, 5 and 6 at the time — could speak or recognize their names when they were removed from the apartment in September 2013.

They didn't know how to eat a sandwich or recognize an apple as food, said Deputy District Attorney Anita Drasan.

All four boys have been placed in the same foster home and have made dramatic improvements, but they still have "long battles before them," Drasan said.  More   Strange News

Men pay young mothers to breastfeed them

Police recently broke up a prostitution ring in Beijing where men would pay young mothers to breastfeed them.

The fetish is referred to as “lactophilia” and, with human breast milk said to have healing properties, the sexual proclivity has become quite the indulgence for China’s rich population.

In this particular bust-up, police arrested 15 people from two different gangs.

Initial reports of the ring first popped up in the South China Morning Post, which claimed over 200 people across the country paid for such a membership service.

For 60 yuan ($9) a week or up to 780 yuan ($125) a year, subscribers would gain access to a diverse selection of willing mothers. However, if they wanted actual sex, that’d be extra.   More    Strange News

Woman charged with filing 28 false child abuse reports

Florida – A Holmes County woman is facing felony charges after allegedly making dozens of false child abuse claims, according to the Bonifay Police Department.

BPD began investigating in October, after “numerous unfounded reports” of child abuse and/or neglect were filed with the Florida Abuse Registry, alleging abuse in two separate households.

DCF provided information that led to subpoenas for records from two internet providers. That information helped identify a suspect: Jessica Elizabeth Combee, 38, of Westville, who, according to law enforcement, has connections to both households that were implicated in the false claims.

“This is just one example of how people use the system to carry out their agenda against whomever they felt has done them wrong,” Bonifay Police Chief Chris Wells said.  More    Strange News

Woman Smears Poop On Macy’s Employees During Shoplift Attempt

Florida – It’s not uncommon for shoplifters to create a diversion while they try to slip out with their loot, but a Florida thief came up with the crappiest escape plan we’ve ever heard of.

Thirty-two-year-old Marisol Toribio, who tried to steal from a Ft. Lauderdale Macy’s, decided to go for broke when she was cornered by security: She reached in her pants, grabbed a handful of poop, and smeared it on the officer’s face.

Needless to say, Toribio’s tactic didn’t work and Coral Springs police charged her with theft, in addition to tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and criminal grossness.

No word on what Marisol was trying to steal from Macy’s, but whatever it was, it wasn’t worth all that.  More    Strange News

Man gave young dad he met in courtroom $983 so he could avoid becoming a felon

Portland – A generous attorney who overheard how a defendant could not afford restitution in his theft case has given the young father $983 so he avoids becoming a felon.

Colin M. Murphy (picture) was sitting in Multnomah County Circuit Court in Portland, Oregon last Thursday as he waited for his case, when he heard lawyers and the judge discussing Castor Conley’s predicament.

Conley, a 27-year-old married father of a 17-month-old girl, paid $150 to $200 for a stolen Nissan truck last year and then sold it for $275 to another buyer, who in turn sold its parts, authorities said.

The defendant, who had one other conviction for a fourth-degree assault in 2011, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, but the deputy district attorney agreed for it to be classified as a misdemeanor if he paid $983 to the owner of the truck, The Oregonian reported. Woman threw 3-year-old poodle from moving car

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Florida - A 3-year-old poodle that was tossed from a moving car Christmas Eve in New Smyrna Beach is safe thanks to a group of bystanders and a Volusia County sheriff’s captain who watched the incident unfold, deputies said.

Capt. Shane Summers was stopped at a red light around 9:30 a.m. on Canal Street in New Smyrna Beach when he saw a woman drive through the intersection, swing open her driver’s door and throw Minnie the poodle out, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Minnie tumbled into the road then ran toward a parking lot as 69-year-old Mary Radford (picture) sped off, deputies said.

Three women stopped to rescue Minnie while Summers followed Radford’s car. Deputies said when he caught up with her, she claimed the dog must have fallen out of the car without her noticing. More

Christmas Eve shooting at Louisiana shopping mall leaves 1 dead

GRETNA, La. -- Authorities say "bedlam" broke out at a suburban New Orleans shopping mall after a man was shot and killed inside a store on Christmas Eve.

CBS affiliate WWL in New Orleans reported the shooting happened about 4:21 p.m. Wednesday, less than two hours before the Oakwood Center mall in Gretna was scheduled to close for the holiday, said Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand.

The victim had just purchased something from Foot Locker and had turned from the cash register when a man walked to within three or four feet of him and began shooting, Normand said. No one else was injured.

"Obviously, based on witness accounts, he walked in with purpose of shooting this particular individual," Normand said when asked if the victim was targeted. More

After NYC Deaths, a Surge of Support for Police

Rocker Jon Bon Jovi donned a New York Police Department T-shirt on stage. Well-wishers delivered home-baked cookies by the hundreds to police in Cincinnati. In Mooresville, North Carolina, police and sheriff's officers were treated by residents to a chili dinner.

At a time when many in the nation's police community feel embattled, Americans in cities and towns across the country are making an effort to express support and gratitude.

"I'm showing a little solidarity for my brothers in the NYPD and all of those who protect and serve us every day," Bon Jovi told a cheering crowd at his concert Monday in Red Bank, New Jersey.

The surge of support is linked to two distinct but overlapping developments. More

Son caught his married mother in bed with a naked stranger, battered the man to death

Scotland - A fuming son who caught his married mother in bed with a naked stranger battered the man to death in a fit of rage.

Sean Mahan also attacked his mother, slapping her in the face and branding her a “slut” after he discovered her in bed with Stewart McKellar.

His father was working away at the time, and the raging 21-year-old burst into the bedroom at the family home in Balloch, near Loch Lomond, and launched into a frenzied attack.

After battering the naked Mr McKellar around the room, Mahan called a friend and told them: "This guy was sleeping with my mum. I think I've killed him." More

PROTESTERS NEAR FERGUSON INJURE COPS WITH BRICKS, EXPLOSIVES AFTER OFFICER KILLS ARMED 18-YR-OLD

Missouri - After a police officer who was “fearing for his life” shot and killed an 18-year-old who was brandishing a pistol at him on Tuesday evening, protesters reportedly brought bags of rocks, smashed police cars, hurled explosives and bricks at and assaulted police officers on the scene.

According to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch report, “between 200 and 300 protesters gathered at the scene after the shooting, and conflicts broke out between officers and protesters” in Berkeley, Missouri, which is two miles from Ferguson. Berkeley Mayor Theodore Hoskins (D) said on Wednesday morning that the police officer probably saved his own live by shooting the armed 18-year-old. The incident occurred while officers were responding to a shoplifting report.

According to St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar, “four people were arrested for assaulting officers, and at least one officer was injured when he tried to get away from some sort of firework device set off on the parking lot.” More
