KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The victim’s foster father called it a “miscarriage of justice,” and prosecutors believe it was an “illegal sentence.”
On Tuesday night, a man convicted of raping an 11-year-old Johnson County, Kan., girl last year will spend the night at a county residential center, not in prison, after receiving only probation and a suspended sentence.
Steven Bradford, 22, of Overland Park, was released to the residential center just after midnight on Tuesday morning.
Last month, Johnson County Judge James Franklin Davis sentenced Bradford to three years of probation and a suspended jail sentence for the 2013 rape of an 11-year-old girl outside her apartment complex. Prosecutors immediately filed a motion to have the sentence “corrected.” More
