A 16-year-old boy walking on Int. Hwy. 55 this morning was killed when a vehicle struck him near southwest suburban Shorewood, authorities said.
The boy's name has not been made public yet, but he is from southwest suburban Plainfield and was pronounced dead at 3:05 a.m. on the scene, according to the Will County Coroner's Office.
He was a pedestrian who was hit by a northbound vehicle on I-55, according to the coroner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
Illinois State Police Sgt. Brad Sprague said the crash happened at 1:49 a.m. near Black Road, just north of U.S. 52 near Shorewood It was not a hit-and-run, but authorities are trying to figure out why the boy was on the road.

Orland Park police seeking driver who ran over geese

rland Park police are looking for the driver of a minivan shown running over several geese this week in a dashboard camera video.

A flock of about 20 geese was on 104th Avenue near 159th Street Tuesday morning when a van struck at least three birds and drove away without stopping, said police Lt. Tony Farrell.

“We want to identify the driver and ask some questions,” Farrell said today.
