A Belmont Cragin man who goes by the name of “Flinstone” was denied bail this afternoon after he was accused of shooting a man three times in front of the victim's home, leaving the man in critical condition.
Russel Villanueva, 24, of the 4600 block of West Wellington Avenue, was charged with two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of aggravated battery for the July 9 incident.
About 8 p.m., Villanueva went to the front of the victim’s home in the 5000 block of W. Altgeld Street, pulled a gun out of his waistband and shot toward a group of people, Assistant State’s Attorney Bob Groebner said in court.
Two witnesses fled, after which he pointed the gun at the 21-year-old victim and shot him in the buttocks, face and neck, Groebner said.
Before he was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, the victim said the shooter went by the name of “Flinstone” and was a member of the Latin Brother street gang, prosecutors said.
Villanueva turned himself in at a police station on the evening of July 10.
Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas ordered him held on no bail.
Villanueva is scheduled to be back in court July 17.
