NYPD Police Officer injured by bike thrown from fifth-story Government Subsidized Apartment in Brooklyn

A police officer was seriously injured early Sunday when he was struck by a bike thrown from a fifth floor Crown Heights apartment, police said.

Police were arresting a man for allegedly firing a gun in the vicinity of St. Mark's Ave. near Albany Ave. around 2 a.m. when unknown individuals began throwing debris from the balcony of 959 Saint Mark’s Ave., police said.

One officer, who was responding as back-up to the arrest, was struck by a bike tossed from what appeared to be either a window or the balcony of the fifth floor, police said.

The falling bike opened a gash in the officer's head, but missed a direct hit, police said.
