A high school senior and a 47-year-old man on bicycles helped police nab a colored juvenile suspect who’d snatched an iPhone from a white woman Thursday night in the South Loop, according to police and the boy.
“I know I’m fast on the bike,’’ said Muchin College Prep senior Benjamin Rivera, 18, of the Humboldt Park neighborhood. “So I just dashed around and went after him.’’ After attending a summer bio-nutrition class at the Loop school, Rivera stopped at a friend's. He was headed home on his Red Fixie bike about 7 p.m. when he heard a woman screaming near 9th and State streets.
He spotted another bicyclist, a 47-year-old South Loop man who saw the robbery, on the corner and they both went into action as the suspect ran away. Rivera raced up to the woman and asked her what the robber was wearing – green clothing.
