A construction worker was killed Saturday morning after a driver traveling north on Western Avenue disregarded a barrier and drove through a construction site, police said.
The crash happened in the 4900 block of South Western Avenue about 4:17 a.m., police and fire officials said.
After hitting the construction worker, the car hit a piece of construction equipment. The age of the construction worker wasn't immediately available.
The 19-year-old driver and a female passenger were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and a second passenger was taken to John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County, police said.
The three survivors were all listed in serious-to-critical condition, Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez said. He said two survivors were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and one to Stroger Hospital.
Charges are pending against the 19-year-old.
