A gang member shot and killed on the West Side earlier this week was once accused of shooting two Chicago police officers.
Daniel Jones, 30, was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon while sitting in a vehicle in the East Garfield Park neighborhood – nearly three years after he was charged with attempted murder in the shooting of two Harrison District Officers.
Jones' 54-year-old mother, Sandra, acknowledged Sunday that her son was a member of the Black Souls gang but was trying to leave that life.
"At the end of the day, he was a grown man," she said. "I talked and talked until I was blue in the face. You hope that one day they make the right choice to get out of the life ... my son loved that life, and I'm not glorifying it but he loved that life and that's what he wanted to do."
