Chicago, IL-Hinckley Springs employees, truck drivers and local union 710 representatives have been trying to negotiate for the an increase in wages and a better contract for the past two years and have been unsuccessful. Local 710 teamsters decided to spearhead a strike with employees and route truck drivers three weeks ago. After a second meeting this past Monday Hinckley Springs is not budging to negotiate a new contract. Employees have lost their health insurance and benefits. Inflatable rats are displayed to employ how Hinckley Springs is hiring non-union workers and drivers.
Subsequently, Hinckley Springs has hired non-union truck drivers from out of state paying them 14% more than regular union drivers. President of teamsters 710 states "Hinckley Springs has refused to modify their last offer". The company is highly profitable and has never claimed any economic suffering and has taken a destructive posture". Employees want back pay for the past two years, better pay and want their profit sharing back that the company has stopped. For the record, recently there have been unfair labor practices filed.
Last year alone, Hinckley Springs generated 932 million from deliveries and sales in the Midwest. Demetrius Morton of teamsters 710 mentions " Hinckley Springs thinks little about their employees." Employees are frustrated because they are losing their homes to foreclosures and cannot feed families or pay their bills.
On Thursday, employees and Teamsters representatives of 710 of Illinois and Indiana will have a press conference and rally and march in efforts to reach an agreement with Hinckley Springs for a better contract for employees and to end the strike. They will also display rat inflatables to attract attention of the strike. Some will bring proof that the company has a crack in the water tank that fills 5 gallon bottles. They also will prove that some equipment is not being sterilized and sanitized properly for its customers.
