CHICAGO -- Two suburban women were attacked by a man with a hammer Tuesday night while walking on the lakefront path near Navy Pier.
The women, both 55, were walking on the bike path in the 500 block of North Lake Shore Drive about 6:30 p.m. when a man walked up with a hammer and struck them in the face, police said.
The man ran off, but was later caught by police.
Both women were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition, police said.
Police said the women did not know the attacker. The 28-year-old man is in custody and charges are pending against him Wednesday morning.
