A Waukegan man was arrested yesterday in connection with the assault of a female jogger on the North Shore Bike Path in Libertyville earlier this month, authorities said.
Denilson Martinez-Rodriguez, a 21-year-old Honduran man living in Waukegan, has been charged with aggravated sexual abuse, aggravated battery, sexual abuse and unlawful restraint following the June 15 incident, according to Lake County State’s Attorney spokeswoman Cynthia Trujillo-Vargas.
Police said a woman in her mid-20s fought him off after he stalked her as she was running, attacking her near the Des Plaines River Trail off Route 176.
On Monday at about 6:15 p.m., police authorities were notified of a suspicious man following women on the trail, Trujillo-Vargas said. Shortly thereafter, Martinez-Rodriguez was taken into custody behind Warren Township High School and admitted to the June 15 assault while being questioned by police.
